Project Overview
NorthStar Global Services is a fictional 750-person U.S.-headquartered company with employees and customers across the United States and European Union.As AI use expanded across productivity, marketing, customer service, recruitment, and technology teams, the organization needed more than a single generic AI course. Employees were using different AI systems, in different contexts, with very different levels of potential impact.I designed a role- and risk-based AI literacy program to translate EU AI Act Article 4 into practical workforce governance.The program connects AI use to employee responsibilities, helping people understand the systems they work with, recognize limitations and risks, protect sensitive information, apply appropriate human oversight, and know when an AI-related concern should be escalated.
Key Deliverables
AI Literacy Needs Assessment
Maps workforce groups to the AI systems they use, their context of use, potential human impact, and required level of literacy.
Role & Risk Training Matrix
Defines which employees receive foundational, role-specific, system-specific, or higher-impact AI training.
Core AI Literacy Training
A detailed employee learning program covering AI fundamentals, limitations, hallucinations, privacy, bias, human impact, responsible use, human oversight, and escalation.
Role-Specific Training Modules
Additional training for regular GenAI users, managers, HR and recruiting teams, customer-facing employees, technical teams, and AI system owners.
Scenario-Based Assessment
Tests whether employees can apply responsible AI principles to realistic workplace situations rather than simply recall regulatory language.AI Literacy Training RegisterCreates an evidence trail showing assigned training, completion, training version, role requirements, and review dates.
AI Literacy Governance Standard
Defines ownership, training requirements, review triggers, escalation responsibilities, and how AI literacy connects to the wider AI governance program.
Monitoring & Effectiveness Framework
Tracks completion, role coverage, AI system changes, incidents, escalation awareness, and when additional literacy measures are required.
Article 4 Traceability Matrix
Maps NorthStar's literacy measures back to the organizational considerations identified under EU AI Act Article 4.
Rather than treating AI literacy as a one-time training requirement, the program follows a continuous governance cycle: identify AI use, assess role and risk, train, evaluate understanding, document completion, monitor change, and refresh training when needed.
